TikTok has no switch for the followers list alone. To hide who follows you, make your account private: then only the people you approve can see your followers and following lists. Your following list has a setting of its own, so you can hide who you follow and keep the account public. Your follower count stays visible either way.
Who can see your followers and following lists?
Every TikTok profile has two lists: followers (the people who follow you) and following (the accounts you follow). Who can open them depends on the type of account.
- Public account: anyone can see both lists, on or off TikTok, with or without a TikTok account.
- Private account: only the people you approve as followers can see them.
TikTok describes this in its Help Center article Choosing between a private or public account.
How to hide your followers list on TikTok
The only way to hide who follows you is to make the whole account private:
- In the TikTok app, tap Profile at the bottom.
- Tap the Menu button at the top.
- Tap Settings and privacy, then Privacy.
- Turn Private account on.
A private account changes more than the lists. You approve each new follower, and only approved followers can watch your videos and see your likes. People can no longer Duet, Stitch or download your videos. Your existing followers stay and keep seeing everything.
How to hide your following list on TikTok
Who you follow has its own setting, so you can hide it and keep your account public:
- In the TikTok app, tap Profile at the bottom.
- Tap the Menu button at the top, then Settings and privacy.
- Under Interactions, tap Following list.
- In the menu that opens, choose Only you.
Your followers list stays public. There are two choices, Everyone and Only you. To show your following list again, repeat the steps and choose Everyone.
Videos, stories, reposts and followers of any public account. Nothing is linked to you.
What stays visible when you hide your lists?
| Public, following list hidden | Private account | |
|---|---|---|
| Name, username, profile photo | Visible to everyone | Visible to everyone |
| Number of followers and following | Visible to everyone | Visible to everyone |
| Followers list | Visible to everyone | Approved followers only |
| Following list | Only you | Approved followers only |
| Videos | Visible to everyone | Approved followers only |
The numbers on your profile are not hidden by either setting. Anyone can see how many followers you have and how many accounts you follow, even when the lists themselves are closed. Our TikTok Account Info page shows them for private accounts too.
Can other people or websites see a hidden list?
No. When a list is hidden, TikTok does not give it out, so no app or website can show it. We see this in TikTok's own answers: when we ask for a hidden following list, TikTok replies that the user is hiding it, and the list in our TikTok Following Viewer stays empty. A private account's lists are closed the same way.
A site that promises to show the followers of a private account, or a following list someone has hidden, is not telling the truth.
How to check what others see on your profile
tik.observer is a free anonymous TikTok viewer, and it sees your profile exactly the way a stranger without a TikTok account does. Type your username into our TikTok Followers Viewer or the Following Viewer: if the list opens, it is public; if it stays empty, it is hidden.
