Why does it work for private accounts?
TikTok keeps an account's name, username and profile picture visible to anyone, on or off TikTok, even when the account is private. The videos and lists stay closed, but the picture is public, so tik.observer can show it in full size. The same goes for the account's counts, user ID and creation date, which Account info shows.
Why is the picture small or blurry?
- It was uploaded small. TikTok keeps the picture at the size it was uploaded. There is no larger version anywhere.
- It is the default picture. Accounts without their own picture show TikTok's placeholder.
- It was changed a moment ago. tik.observer keeps a profile for a few minutes, so a brand-new picture can take a little while to appear.

Yes. TikTok keeps profile pictures public even on private accounts, so the picture opens in full size.
What size is the picture?
The largest one TikTok keeps for the account. How big that is depends on what the owner uploaded.
Will they know I saved their picture?
No. Nothing is recorded on their side.
